Subtropico International has been operational since 2003, starting from humble beginnings in a small packhouse in Klapmuts in the Western Cape province of South Africa, and expanding to the world-class facility which it operates today
As part of the Subtropico Limited group, Subtropico International is an owner managed, hands-on operation that supplies the best quality produce from our extensive supply base and established logistics network.
We are the go-to guys for subtropical fruit.

We are proud suppliers of subtropical produce to the distribution centres of all the Major Supermarket Retail groups in the Western Cape and throughout South Africa.
With a keen eye on future food sustainability, Subtropico International believes in optimising the full value chain by curbing post-harvest losses through innovative drying and processing technology without preservatives (Future Forward Food), value-adding (Subtropico Fine foods), and continually improving processes from farm to retail.

Supporting local farmers
Subtropico International is involved in agricultural activity growing its own products but also procures from contracted growing programs with commercial farmers.
Products are sourced through growing programs with provincial and national accredited producers to ensure consistent year-round supply to retail. This requires the company to enter extensive high-volume growing programs with producers from all the major growing regions throughout South Africa. The procurement program which was traditionally focused on bigger commercial farmers is being extended to include emerging farmers and farming communities.

Products are packed and delivered 7 days per week through a well-developed logistics network to retail distribution centers and customers in the hospitality and catering industry.
World Class Facilities
Subtropico International’s packing facilities were upgraded in 2019 on the same premises that they have been operating in since 2003. The overall facility has a capacity of 5500m², housing packing facilities, offices, cold storage, and ripening facilities. Subtropico International can accommodate logistics for small to large consignments.
A dynamic, hands-on team ensures that the operations run smoothly whilst remaining flexible to react quickly to changing needs.
